LOS ANGELES, Aug. 29, 2014 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Indie game developer Tiny Castle Studios announced today that Pool with Pals is now featured as one of the "Best New Games" on the App Store. Currently only available for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch, Pool with Pals will be available on Facebook and Google Play later this year.
When Apple informed the studio that Pool with Pals was being considered as a featured game on the App Store, Founder and Studio Director Jason Crawford described the team's reaction as "blissfully stunned". Crawford goes on to say: "The fact Apple even considered Pool with Pals as a feature was epic validation for us." After receiving news of the potential placement, the team spent a week readying their web servers and biting their nails with anticipation. Crawford says: "When Pool with Pals went live on the App Store as a featured game, we were stunned all over again. We really didn't think it would actually happen." Crawford also remarked: "We are extraordinarily grateful to the team at Apple for this opportunity. We hope iOS users have as much fun playing it as we had making it."
Tiny Castle Studios set out to make something other than a typical billiards app. Crawford says "The game is loosely based on 8 Ball billiards but it's really kind of its own thing. We wanted a super simple and fun interpretation of the game while sparking the competitiveness in all of us."
Pool with Pals is categorized as an arcade game rather than a sports game. Players win coins by sinking bonus shots and winning games. Players then use coins to get customize pool tables like "The Ol' West" and "Space Station" as well as custom billiards balls like "Hot Rod", "Magic Unicorn", "Alien Bug", "Baby Panda", and many more.
Players can enjoy Pool with Pals at their own pace thanks to the game's asynchronous (turn-based) gameplay format. Crawford says "We thought jumping in and out of matches whenever we wanted was a lot more convenient than having to play an entire live game, especially on a smartphone when you're doing ten other things." Players can connect their Facebook and Instagram friends to start several simultaneous games at once. Players can always hone their skills by dueling against the game's A.I. character, Jimmy Da Pool Shark.
